1021 slander of my beloved affiliate on your elist -- rank: 1000
Yea, the corporate state has done things like this many times before to discredit unions. But abuse does occur in these awful snake pits and those of us who follow those stories and know of people who have survived them know that neither unions nor business owners of these snake pit institutions have stopped the abuse of institutionalized persons - including nursing home abuse. An associate of mine who is a university professor in Hawaii and widely published on disability issues recently wrot ...

1022 bourgeois medicine -- rank: 1000
This explains how the Dutch plan is bourgeois medicine. marta http://www.oaklandtribune.com/ Article last updated: Sunday, April 15, 2001 3:18 AM MST 'Dutch Death' makes doctors all-powerful THE Netherlands, by a peaceful and democratic process, just gave its doctors a license to kill. The New York Times, as usual, got the story embarrassingly wrong, calling the new law "aided suicide": "The new law insists adult patients must have made a voluntary, well-considered and lasting r ...

1023 Nursing home strike report -- rank: 1000
If true this is certainly infantile and uncalled for. Marta New York Times-4-11-01 "Hartford:Nursing Home Sabotage" "Allegations of vandalism and sabotage before a one-day strike at Connecticut nursing homes have been substantiated by Chief State's Attorney John M. Bailey. In a report released yesterday, investigators said that they found evidence of 34 incidents at nursing homes before the March 20 walkout by members of the New England Health Care Employees Union, District 1199 ...

Pacifica management is running scared and has resorted to increasingly desperate tactics in a futile attempt to discredit our growing movement for democracy. Here's a quick run down of what we in the Pacifica Campaign have man ...

1026 Cali power crisis -- rank: 1000
According to Public Citizen, some of our private utilities took generators off line and this is going to be investigated. Seems there is suspicion that some plants were taken off line for manipulation purposes rather than mechanical or other types of failures. There are several power plants being constructed now in CA (with tax payer dollars?) Since LA's public DWP isn't one of the private utilities owing money to all these outside power corps (its got enough generating power) and we've more ...

1027 Singer's latest -- rank: 1000
OK kelly I accept your wrist slapping. Next time I will check out every nuance before I post something to the list. I would still like to know why the animal rights group decided Singer was no longer fit for his position there. Singer has been a long time animal rights hero, so if he did not say anything offensive as least as you have explained it here, what is their beef? I do wonder still, though why an animal rights group that Singer held a high position in, would think his piece was objectionable enough to force him out of the organization. I mean, these are Singer's animal rights pals....so I will busy myself with reading what he actually wr ...

1029 Singer's latest -- rank: 1000
Actually you've not got it Justin. It is the unequal relationship. Singer does condone parents being legally able to kill their disabled offspring. That is an unequal relationship where the infant has no say. Here, the question of consent is equally disturbing. Animals do not have an equal relationship when it comes to human sexual aggression imposed upon them. What are they going to do, take it to court? If anything, I am for the underdog (pun intended) - that's consistent. Marta Justin S ...

Gordon, while I appreciate many of your points here, I think picking up an animal and engaging it in sex are horses of a different color. As for the consent part with animals, plenty of men think women give their consent in rape cases, so how can an animal speak up for itself when the human is doing the interpreting?
