Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who had won the conference's contest the last three years, took 22 percent. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin took 7 percent and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawkenty 6 percent of the 2,395 ballots cast.

So not only has The Nation given a column to the execrable Melissa Harris-Lacewell, they've cut Alexander Cockburn back to once a month. I've had my differences with Alex over the years, but I still admire him a lot. These moves together have the net effect of moving the magazine to the right and reducing the quantity of stylish prose close to zero. Please complain. Doug
