All the liberals who normally despise "identity" claims - Eric Alterman prominent among them - have been citing Gore's near-90% share of the black vote as proof of ...

Exactly. When push comes to shove, these people will all campaign for the party. They're the mechanisms by which the base is bound to that corrupt structure. Jackson could've broken in '88, ...

34134 NYC voting problems -- rank: 1000
[Not only in Florida. From City Limits' weekly.] NEW VOTERS, OLD PROBLEMS Florida isn't the only place where things get weird come Election Day. Last week, some of the city's newest citizens got a first-hand lesson in voting, American style. In leaving their homelands behind, they may have escaped voter obstacles like intimidation, harassment and blatant ballot fraud. But they do have to reckon with a whole new set of obstacles--namely, the bizarre voting machines and the unaccountable bureaucra ...

34136 BW on Ralph -- rank: 1000
[if I had Eric Alterman's email address I'd forward this to him] Business Week - November 20, 2000 Commentary: The Punishing Price of Nader's Passion By Paul Magnusson You have to hand this much to Ralph Nader: He can take the heat. Despite pleas and bluster from labor leaders, environmentalists, and feminists to drop out and effectively throw his support to Vice-President Al Gore, the 66-year-old left-wing crusader stayed his lonely course. Even as it became clear that Nader's Green Party candi ...

34140 [Meta] Summary of Nader analysis -- rank: 1000
Do the math (I haven't, but Dan Lazare did on my radio show the other night): the number of states that would lose representation by the abolition of the electoral college is greater than the number necessary to block a constitutional amendment. So barring an outbreak of enlightened selflessness, the electoral college is here to stay, just like that other abomination, the Senate. Doug
