28321 Anti-americanism is a fool's anti-imperialism -- rank: 1000
Chuck Grimes wrote: >See, I think Chomsky should have declined. Why? I'm with Gore Vidal on this - you never refuse an invitation to have sex or be on TV. The TV audience is so big and varied, and you never know whom you'll reach with even just one sentence. You think up your soundbite or three and work them in regardless of the question and hope for the best. Sure there are massive constraints, but there's so much potential that you can't turn down an invitation from CNN. Doug

The Transition interview is very impressive, but I'm kind of a Sharpton fan anyway. The guy is very smart, and lots of white liberals and leftists seriously underestimate him. The Brawley affair was disgraceful - race relations in ...

28323 i have a passport therefore i am a citizen -- rank: 1000
Speaking of The Internationale, I've been Gnutella-ing a bunch of versions of it. I came across one by a Scottish singer, Alistair Hulett, which is pretty good, but it's only the first minute or so of the full version. I've emailed the address given on his website to find out how to get the whole thing, but no answer. Anyone know anything about him, or the recording? Doug

As Americans, we're all heirs of slavery - it shaped the physical and social environment from the first, and many of the issues around race we live with today are its sequelae. And h ...

pms quoted: >ODJ DJ. Fed's McTeer: Jobless Rate A Lagging Indicator McTeer actually said "employment is a lagging indicator." Lots of people say this, but it just isn't true. On average, employment bottoms out in the month of the business cycle trough (which isn't that much of a surprise - employment is one of the indicators the NBER uses to date cycles). Ditto unemployment, though it's a little stickier, since signs of an improving economy bring people into the job market. Doug

Finally, after all too long an interval, I've uploaded some new stuff to the LBO website <http://www.leftbusinessobserver.com>. As always, the articles are richly peppered with links. * Articles on the collapse of the twin neoliberal models - Enron <http://www.leftbusinessobserver.com/Enron.html> and Argentina <<http://www.leftbusinessobserver.com/Argentina.html>. * An interview (from last fall, but still quite relevant) with Tariq Ali on terrorism, fundamentalism, and the w ...
