[full report at <http://people-press.org/reports/display.php3?ReportID=196>] Evenly Divided and Increasingly Polarized 2004 Political Landscape One year ahead of the presidential election, the American electorate is as politically polarized as it was in 1994, when a wave of partisan anger propelled Republicans into control of Congress for the first time in four decades. The difference is that now, unlike then, Republicans and Democrats have become more intense in their political beliefs. T ...

24965 [lbo-talk] Fwd: [ufpj-disc] Words and Messages (Empire, Imperialism, PNAC) -- rank: 1000
Opposition to empire-building has a long history in American politics, going back at least to George Washington. The argument was that building an empire abroad would be the death of democracy at home. What's wrong with reviving that old line? Elites have long been frustrated by the masses' reluctance to get involved abroad. Doug

Both Kentucky and Mississippi are states of the old Confederacy that Bush carried in 2000. The Reps pretty much have a lock on the region now.

Also, a lot of American IT workers might argue that FDI is contributing to Indian growth at the expense of U.S. growth.
