21886 [lbo-talk] declining #'ers @ anti-war marches (unofficial UK SWP blog) -- rank: 1000
I was amazed that as many people showed up as did to protest a war that already happened. The demo lacked any coherent message, which is understandable; people seemed to bring their own. The anti-RNC demo is another matter - if that doesn't bring out the multitudes then I may give up on politics. Though I'm sure we'll have to cope with the "Bush = Kerry" crowd anyway. Doug

21891 [lbo-talk] Emma v Ralph -- rank: 1000
How is morality - a set of behavioral prescriptions - the same as kindness, empathy, forgiveness, and love? The latter can be read as forms of erotic feeling, which are often lacking in moralists. [ancient history, from a piece by Bruce Bartlett - from the 2000 campaign - <http://www.ncpa.org/oped/bartlett/sep2000a.html>] I am not sure if it is his first published article, but the earliest piece I was able to find by Ralph Nader was published in the ultra-conservative American Mercury magazine in March 1960. (The American Mercury was a highly respected magazine in the 1920s and 1930s, but fell on hard times and was sold to some ultra-conservatives in the 1940s, who turned the magazi ...
