An a million thanks, again, to Jordan for hosting the list and doing the work to keep it going. As a favor to him, try at all costs to avoid posting something that has to be removed from the archives. It's a big pain in the ass, and the last thing he needs to do is more uncompensated work! Talk of Israeli strike in Iran shows risks: Rice JERUSALEM (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Sunday that speculation about an Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear facilities underscored the risk of failing to persuade Tehran to halt uranium enrichment. Rice, in an interview with Israel's Channel 10 television, said she believed there was still "plenty of room for diplomacy" in curbing an Iranian nuclear program that Western powers fear could lead to making ...

11707 Re: [lbo-talk] (Guardian) Comment is free: Should egalitarians support Chávez? -- rank: 1000
If I had the time, I could make an equally tendentious list about the U.S. - we have our own Padilla affair, e.g. There's just no comparison between Cuba today and the USSR in the 30s. This kind of high-minded social democracy never addresses how to deal with the U.S. breathing down Cuba's neck. Our government is at least as responsible for repression in Cuba as is Cuba's own.
