695 [lbo-talk] A Case for Hizbollah? -- rank: 1000
http://www.indymedia.org.il/imc/webcast/63846.html A Case for Hizbollah? by Ran HaCohen So here we go again, it seems. Blood-thirsty Arabs -- Lebanese fundamentalists of the Hizbollah, "the Party of God" -- bombed the Israeli town of Shlomi (10.8), killing a 15-year-old boy and injuring several others. Terrorist attack on civilians, three years after Israel has withdrawn its very last soldier from Lebanese soil. Isn't it the ultimate proof for the inherent terrorism of the Arabs, the d ...

698 [lbo-talk] Are there more Aramaic and Latin speakers out there than I thought? -- rank: 1000
Can someone please explain to me how these people who saw the film (all in Latin and Aramaic with no English subtitles) can make judgements on the film? Perhaps the Catholic theologins have enough Latin to understand one half, and perhaps the Jewish Talmud scholars can understand the Aramaic half, but how the hell did Matt Drudge understand anything but: "wow, look at the pretty pictures"? I have to say, though, that James Caviezel seems like he would make a very compelling Jesus. Brya ...

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/08/11/arts/music/11WARP.html?8hpib Sentimental Punkers and the Back-to-Basics Kind By KELEFA SANNEH Why was last year's Warped Tour so dispiriting? Because the bands were so competent, playing a streamlined form of punk rock built on solid tunes and fast tempos. They gave the kids exactly what they wanted and nothing more. [...] But the lineup showed how much this world has changed over the past 12 months. Last year's dull competence was replaced by an exciting confus ...
